Is it good to trim or not?

Have you ever seen what hair looks like when you zoom all the way in?

The surface layer is made up of scales called cuticles. (like the back of a fish). Marlene M. Gutierrez, of the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute, explains:

"Healthy hair feels smooth to the touch because the scales are smooth, regular and lie flat. Hair feels rough because scales in the cuticle have been eroded, scratched and are now disjointed" The more damaged the cuticle layer, the more you have to help it for hair to look and feel better.

Applying products is sort of like painting a new layer on top of the damaged scales to make them smooth. As new hair grows and is cared for, its condition can improve!

That's one reason why an occasional trim can actually make your life easier!
